If you have some expertise in business then you might do well at freelance writing for business publications. Many business magazines work with freelance writers and they tend to pay quite good rates.

There is a diverse range of topics covered by business magazines including general management, sales, marketing, customer relationship management, entrepreneurship, training, employment law, occupational safety and health, information management and technology, environmental issues, accounting and taxation, investing, and many more. It is of course a big advantage of course if you have a strong background in the area of business that you are writing about.

Some business publications have nationwide circulation and coverage. Here are a few examples. “The American” is the bimonthly journal of the American Enterprise Institute and explores the ways business shapes all aspects of American life. “Business Plus” is a business magazine focusing exclusively on the activities of Irish companies or companies based in Ireland. “Business Today Egypt” is a magazine covering Egyptian and Middle Eastern business and economic news.

There are also many regional business publications such as “Alaska Business Monthly” and “ColoradoBiz”.  Then there are publications that are specific to certain types of business, such as “Credit Union Business”, to specific culture groups such as “Hispanic Business”, and to particular departments within business, for example human resources, such as “HR Magazine” and "Training Australia Magazine".

As a freelance writer you may have left behind the daily commute to a traditional business office, but that does not stop you from drawing on your past experiences and expertise that you might be able to offer as a business writer.

Here is further information on some publications including some of those listed above. We have more than 170 publications listed under the business category in our Markets Plus database.

This is very helpful, as I find your articles generally are.
While I appreciate that you do have a list of trade publications within your markets, could you also please give advice about how to find them in your local community, as I have found this to be quite a challenge.
    Thanks, Janice
