Sports Writing – Become a Sports Writer

Sports writing is always in demand.

Right now, in cities and towns everywhere, people are reading about sports. They are checking scores. They are reviewing player selections for the coming match.

If you would like to be a sports writer there are certain to be some opportunities in your region.

Sports writing is hard work. It’s not all about rubbing shoulders with Tiger Woods (!) or your favorite sports stars although you may get to interview some of them.  The reality of sports writing is that you will often be working extremely hard to meet tight deadlines. And the pay, for starting sports writers anyway, is not something to get too excited about.

Nevertheless it can be an effective way to build your resume. You may get to meet some famous stars and your friends will be envious of your seat in the press box.

Freelance Writing – A Career From Anywhere

An island in the Mediterranean. A beach in Africa. The east coast of New Zealand. What do all these locations have in common? Freelance Like a Farmer

This is a guest post by Beth Ann Erickson.

I began my illustrious freelance career with visions of tweed coats, elbow patches, cigars, and pensive photos. My mind's eye saw a cluttered office, checks strewn across my desk, and waking to one illuminating thought after another. I believed I'd tap at the keyboard, mail queries, read my articles on glossy paper, and assignments would flow like water.

Small problem with that scenario. Tweed coats don't look good on me. I don't smoke, never have. And I usually wind up looking goofy in photos, no matter how hard I try to strike a pensive pose.
